One of my favorite design motifs is the
Classic Greek Key pattern. A common interior design trend today is combining the modern with ancient- the Greek key motif is perfect for this style.
History:Examples of this pattern (also known as a meander: "a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif") have been found as far back as Egyptian tombs and Aztec sculptures. It is, however, most associated with its use in Greek architecture and design. Meanders (Greek key patterns) were among the most important symbols in ancient Greece. They may have symbolized infinity and unity and were used widely in Greek architecture and pottery. Today, the Greek key may be referred to as "fretwork". It is prevelant in design elements such as decorative tile, carpet, fabric and case goods. We carry the "Larrisa Listello" which is a perfect example of this pattern.
