I just got back from a trip to Arizona....what a beautiful state! I wanted to share some "architectural" highlights of the trip with you:
First up, my visit to
Taliesin West. This is the personal winter home, studio and architectural campus for Frank Lloyd Wright- located in Scottsdale. It was started in 1937 and took about 20 years to complete. Frank Lloyd Wright is considered by many to be the 20th century's greatest architect- his designs were so innovative at the time. Today Taliesin West has a fully accredited architectural program, for both a bachelors and masters degree. Here are some photos I took of this inspiring place:
He designed each space to frame nature...this next photo exemplifies this:
We took an excursion up north to
Sedona. It has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world!! It is surrounded buy red-rock monoliths and has a reputation as a spiritual mecca and global power spot. One of the attractions of Sedona is the
Chapel of the Holy Cross. It was inspired and commissioned by sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staud, a student of Frank Lloyd Wrights. It was completed in 1956 and has won several architectural achievement awards. It is awe inspiring:
Looking down from the chapel you can see the new second home of one of the men who invented Lasik Surgery. I wonder what his first house looks like!! Our guide said that the Koi pond alone was over 1million dollars:
This is more my style...a contemporary adobe home:
